New Funds for New Cafeteria Hon. Wayne Cheverie and Tim Carroll, Liberal MLA’s for 5th Queens, are pleased to present a $300,000 cheque on behalf of the provincial government to C.W.J. Eliot, President of UPEI, and Orin Carver, President of the 1991 Canada Winter Games Committee. The contribution will help fund the construction of new dining facilities at UPEI, which will serve as the athletes’ village for the upcoming 1991 Canada Winter Games. Mr. Carroll, a business professor at the university, is excited about the long-term legacy of the games to the university. The UPEI field house was opened earlier this year and already has greatly enhanced the character of the university. With the addition of the new dining hall, the university campus will be further equipped to meet the needs of the student body. Hon. Wayne Cheverie is pleased with the provincial government’s strong commitment to the winter games. As health and social services minister, he recognizes the importance of sport and recréation to the overall well-being of the individual and the community. As host society for the 1991 Canada Winter Games, Islanders are afforded the opportunity to be exposed to, and participate in a diverse range of cultural and athletic activities. Mr. Cheverie is urging all islanders to take advantage of this unique opportunity. The UPEI Dining Hall is scheduled to open just prior to the Winter Games. The UPEI X-Press October 25, 1990 Page 30
