Potato digging in this locality is now getting under way with al- most all farmers preparing to dig this coming week. The report from many farmers indicate a fairly good crop with an average yield of two hundred bushels. The potatoes appear to be of good grading size with a minimum of small ones. There seems to be no presence of blight or disease in the district and the farmers expect to reap an excellent harvest. With the farmers preparing to haul the potatoes to market, local exporters are making ready their warehouses to receivethe crop. The excellent quality o! the island potatoes provides a ready market for them in all points. and the local exporters are allocating box- cars for the purpose oi transport. ing the produce to foreign markets. Although there is somewhat of a scarcity of labour, the farmers ex- pect to get out their potatoes in a short time so as to catch tho first markets. It is interesting to note that [arming is the work o! all ages, both old and young. boys and girls. and when a little girl drives a tractor. that is news. In Brudenell, a lovely little girl, Miss Verna MacLaren, age eleven years, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alden Mac- Laren, now drives her fathers tractor. Last fall during the plow- ing season, Verna took over con- trol of the tractor, and plowed a considerable stretch all by her- self. This fan with the potato dig- ging season in full swing, Verna is again helping her father by driving the tractor. It is/lovely to watch this little girl handling tho big machine with the dexterity o! an experienced driver, and need- less to say her ability to take a man's place at the driver's wheel has been of great assistance to lier father. Such an accomplish- ment of one so young is indeed w be commended. (Continued From Paid U) '1” REIT STREET ill/Milt sir/tom". Take a hint ifrom the calendar bring in your car now!
