OBITUARY--Died at the Provincial Poor House on Sunday, July 15th, instant, George Crane. of China Point, aged 88 years. The deoeasedconduct-ed the Ferry service between China Point and Brush wharves for the past 23 years, and was a familiar figure to persons who had occa- sion to visit those points. He was a man of large frameand robustappearance, and _ although he had passed his four score and ` eight years continued the service until i last summer, when his health began to fail. As he lived alone, was unmarried, and uncared for, his neighbors had him placed in the Poor House last winter, where he spent his last days and f:bm whence his remains were inturred in the plot in the People’s Cemetery. Two of his brothers, John and James, now both dead, conducted the same ferry service be- fore his appointrneut. Cox. SOME time ago the Canada. The preparing of the chicken was a success but the transportation was defective and when the chickens arrived in England they were not marketable. The industry will be continued _ throughout Canada, An Ottawa despatch says: Differences of pol- itical opinion have not affected the Min- ister of Agriculture in the choice of a man to take charge of the stations to be es- tablished throughout Canada for the pur- pose of illustrating the best methods to he employed in fattening chickens for the British market. Mr F.C. Hare.a chicken fan- cier of Wliitby, Ontario., has been chosen and left Ottawa tc-night for \Vestern Ont- ario to locate a station somewhere near Chatham, where he willprobably fix upon some enterprising farmer to take eliarg: of the work. s The department has for a. year or two been making experiments in fattening chickens by special food and shipping theiii to the British market, where they are sold at such it large profit that it is intended to introduce the methods gener- ally among farmcrs, and Mr. Hare is be- ing employed for this purpose. It is hoped that in time chicken fatten- ing institutions will become as great a means of revenue to farmers as cheese factories now are, so that all the farmers need do is to grow chickens. He need not fatteu them. He can sell them to the fattening institutions, and they will do the rest. There is hope. too, that in time the same methods will be introduced as to all barn-yard fowls, as there is a. large demand in GreatBritain for such food and many farmers there have been able to reap fortunes in catering to it. --_-Q-_-___ K umfort Headache Powders quickly relieve a headache.
