ELECTION THOUGHTS As this newsletter has been nritten well in advance of the election date but will appear two days after, we are taking this npprirlllllltY of cousratulstlns the people of Prince Edward Island upon the fact that they have pro- vided themselves with a Govern- man! for the next four or five years. Nnl all parts of the world are mitunate enough to enjoy the pi-nilege of electing a Govern- mom. Unfortunately. those who do perhaps in many cases do not value the privilege as highly as they might. The pattern of election cam- paigns has been changing in thin Prm-nice with more and more use being made of radio addres- ses and newspaper advertising. This trend appears to indicate a liking on the part of the politician for a method of conveying infor- mation to the electorate in a less painful manna than that of the joint political meeting. Radio and newspapers do not provide much in the way of an opportunity for tlw electorate to talk back or raise questions. in theory the public is always free to talk back and the Joint political meeting in days gone by provided an excellent opportunity and one which served to delight it not always enlighten those as- EPl'llili('d. if the election is to he s contest, we think there is a case for having the candidates come more closeLv to grips than is possible in the press and over the air. ACADIA wuss- Recently we had a letter from the operator of one at the two remaining flour mills in the Prov- ince. The writer deplored the fact that much of the wheat now grown in the Province was un- suitable for milllnl PllI'D0ees and recommended that farmers be advised to produce only the new variety known as Acadia. This variety has only been for distribution for the past three yehrs. The quantity. for this rea- son. has been limited. but we understand that many farmers have obtained seed. The new" va- riety is recommended for milling purposes and we draw this fact to the attention of our readers where interested in wheat pro- ductlon. who SET-ASIDE If not already, in the very near future. patrons of butter, cheese and milk factories will be receiv- log with their monthly statement a notification from the Dairy Farmers oi Canada that a de- duction will he made from l.lune butterfai. of in per pound. The money to be used in the national advertising and ,romotion oi dairy products. This hontribution is entirely voluntary on the farm- ers part but will be made unless the producer declares his unwill- ingness to help out. ' Last year. it will be recalled that the deduction wan figured out on each patron's account. This year a different system will be used. To save bookkeeping. the price of hutterfat will be general- ly lowered by lc. thus making it unnecessary to show the individ- ual amount " t 0 by each farmer. The patron's account. however. will eontain.a state- ment to the effect that the price has been lowered and why.
