Dear Sir,—I believe the new School Act is causing a good deal of trouble in many parts of the Island. where the people have heretofore been careless in not having their districts de- fined. This part of the trouble should properly be thrown on the former Act, l'or certuinl it is requisite hat the bounds of each Schoo Dis- trict shou d be properly defined and registered ; and if the le cannot agree among tliem- sblves, and are not willing to abide by the irlagstratcm decision. they should not pick holes in s Act, in this respect. Every settler can- not expect to have a School within 100 yards of his door : and, therefore, each neighbour should learn to use brotherly kindness one toward another. But I believe. the people vc ter cause of complaint in not being‘ able to obtain Teachers, and it Is thou ht t at many, very many Districts. will be without a Teacher alto- her. This is owln to the smallness of the reniuni-ration for the eaohers' services. I do not mean that a larger sum should be taken from the Revenue. but that the Act should le to assess themselves for a lsschcr, and give him wer to recover the sure as the law at resent stands, even if the settlement should wish to give an additional sum for a su rior Teacher, he has to trust to the honor of th: people. as he is, I believe. pre- u from recovering it by Law. his is one of the defects in the low, which I trust will be remedied. I hear a 1: deal of trouble is given to Teachers an parents, by a want of uniformity in the Books which are purchased for schools, so great a variety is now offered. many of thorn, - possessing the same merits and onlv (llllt‘I'IfI in their compilation, which render it impossi- bio for them to make I think this only rsqnires to be represented to the Board of Edn- cation, to get them to move in the matter. but as anything that is evcryhody’s business is nobsdy’s it yet remains to be done.
