This meeting is to be addressed by Rev. Dr. Braithwaite, Dominion Orgaizer, Rev. R. W. Ross, Or- ganizer for the Presbyterian section and Rev. Mr. Cock Organizer for Nova Scotia and P. E. Island. As stated 'iii previous references to this subject all the Protestant denominations have united in a forward movement. Twelve great conventions are to be held in Canada during the coming few weeks, one at least In -each of the provinces. A full explanation of the scheme in hand will be given at tonight’s meeting and all who are interested in the spiritual and moral life of the com- munity and of the \vorld should make it their business to be present. i i The movement being launched is the biggest relig- ious movement ever undertaken, and the fact that the five leading Protestant denominations have agreed to lay aside their little differences and unite in one grand campaign for the good of humanity should appeal to al . At best this is not a love match; it is a match for the convenience of the parties concerned and is likely to end in the divorce court. The fundamental ideas of the United Farmers and the Labor party are irreconcilable. Such an alliance, even a temporary one, is- only possible provincially_ In federal politics it would be practically impossible. -The alleged sins of existing parties have been held up to the gaze of the electorate by the various sects now seeking political supoprt. All the evils that have befal- len during and since the war have been laid at the door of one or other or both the existing political parties. The high cost of living, difficulties of transportation, patron- age, political pull-all these and others have been charg- ed against the present political system. Labor has one remedy for each, the United Farmers have another and in not a few cases the remedy proposed by the one is levelled against the other. It is not probable that their united efforts will make any better headway against the high cost of living than has been done; that they can run the railways any more economically than is being done-unless the farmers insist upon a lower scale of wages than that in vogue at present and the Labour party will not likely acquiesce in this. Nor, is it probable that either party will wholly ignore the value of pull or patronage. There will be many differences of opinion to overcome before the two parties can see eye to eye on the great issues now before th-e Canadian people and it is not probable that either party or both together can muster up any more honesty or statesmaiiship than wc have had under the old ordeit. - Probably the greatest ‘benefit that will result from the coalition will be the discovery that effective coalition is impossible and that, after all, no one caste, either i'a- cial, religious, industrial or commercial, has a monopoly of all the honesty and all the statesmanship. It will be found after their experiments have been tried out that the best government is to be _found in a judicious blend- ing of all the interests of the country.. 0 LIBERALS NOT IN |'l‘ _ _ o---» Certain Liberals have been claiming credit for ii share in the winnings by the United Farmers in recent elections. These claims are strongly repudiated by the Farmers. -The Moncton Transcript, whose Liberalism occasionally assumes an acute form, claimed that the return of the United Farmers’ candidate in Carleton- Victoria was due to the fact that the Liberals supported him. The Transcript’s comment was republished by the St. John Telegraph whereupon the United Farmers ask- ed th-e latter to publish the following _letters To the Editor of the Moncton Transcript: Sir,-Having noticed a quotation from the Moncton Transcript in the St. John Telegraph of October 29_, saying that the victory of the United Farmers’ candidate in Carleton-Victoria was due to the fact that The United Farmers and Liberals combined to support him, we wish to emphatically deny this insinuation, as the United Farmers’ Organization and also their candidate would not consider any alliance with either of the old parties under any circumstances, in fact our candidate has re- peatedly said that he would rather be defeated as the United Farmers’ candidate than to be elected hy the support of either of the old parties as a party, but that he would /appreciate the support of any man regardless of what his politics had been in the past. 3 d Tm* UNITED F\RMERs _) ‘4 - 1 _ ( g OF NE\v BRI'NS\vI('i{ -"**““°° ¢». lwliicli tends to i-_lose such liolcs with rust iiuil thus it is very wlili korosrnii in it and when it -Q.~ii"ii|iPii Et. s|ii°f-iiiiu us n dlsagrceiililn iilin over f~.vi=r§.'ll\lng in the vii'iiiil_y, ywlilli- iviiir-r i`l'iriiis into dropii iiiiii gots out or this way. li 5_4 ilillif.-iilt ‘io lzcep ii puiiip iiulit iigniiisl kero- Isciio, ns the i»\\p igrozisc is iilnnplvpii _ill-' '. lt nl:-io dotciioriites rulilier _ciiiiiii-ci_ions. lt' you cxpcrl-iiieiii_ with lir-rose-ho, lii‘ sure iluit. none of ilii- llll-*PlllE<-‘ii in your i~nilia.1iir :iri- - “-ifititrldl. for' 't they iiro, you will uni hr- sible to ilriiw tho wiitci- out or them and this ni.i_v frcozil \t-1|,-n mp] wi-;i\lici' i~oiii'i~s, bi\i-_:i\is.'~ tho hero. sf-im will uni mix with 'i or ilisplnco il.
