by Joseph M.J. Sanlei Never again will the "proper place" for women be in either the bedroom or the kitchen for the service of men. Men must not believe themselves to be in possession of some sort of divinely ordained right- to lord over waTen, and thereby c‘bminate their lives as one does that of a pet, or worse still, an item of property. The rationafe of religious sanction ("The Bible says. . ..") , tradition ("that's the way things have always been“), and all sudi bull must be used no longer to manipulate human lives. No longer must women, under the guise of "sexual liberation" be mere objects of the lust of men, via Charlie's Angels, 'Ihree's Company and the commercial world of advertizing, et cetera. That is not revolutim, but rather regression to barbarism, as bodies devoid of minds and are thereby exploited at every opportunity. A stake must once, and for all time, be driven into the cold heart of sexism, and from sexism's death there must emerge a new, liberated, and more socIAL by Sue Parlee Well, the school year is now in full swing and so are activities at the Barn. The first three Pig and Whistles were a great success. We had a full house for Bop Shoo Bop on Sept. 13, and a good turnout on Sept. 15 for Guinness. Last week's Pig saw "Spice", a band _ from Halifax. I'm sure a good time was had by all (even if a few of us had to wait in line-ups!) This year, due to the cost of bands, admission to all Pigs will be $2.50. I knm it sounds expensive, 1% if you went to some clubs in town you would pay at least that to get in. Here at the Barn you get to see all your friends and have a good time (even if you dai't remember!) It's the one big event the Student Union puts on every week, so you should get out and intelligent view of not ' onlywaten but men as well. For too long Feminist Liberation has been thought of as being excluSively in the realm of women. Man, it was believed, had but little or no part to play in the unfolding drama of female equality save that of acceptance, or sadly, rejection, of women on the road to Freedom. The promulgated thought was that if women were‘to ever advance then women alone had to initiate and execute any and all of those advances. After all, it was reasmed, wasn't that the way in which the right of women's suffrage had been attained? An important understanding had been missed by both men and women, that is that eveg action taken in an area of the so-called J "Women's Movement" will profoundly effect and eternally alter the lives and lifestyles of men, as well as women. Since that day, not long ago, when the person, of women was first recognized, en masse, men can neyer again return to their previous state of Supremacy. ‘Amenl! If you're wondering what is playing at the Pig ead‘I week, just watdn around campus; there's posters up in al— most every building. But this does lead to one problem. There are a few light—fingered people who love to take these * posters (right, Bertha?) So if everyone could leave them up till after the Pig, everyone would get a chance to see them and know who's playing at the Pig. (After all, how many people will see‘these posters in your room,, Bertha?) Also ead'l week * in the SUN the Pigs will be announced. If anyone would like to help out with the . Social Committee, we'd love to have you. I must clear cne thing up. The Social Committee is not just for girls as previously thought, so we'd like to disgust . COMMITTEE , , men to reconcile their. attitudes to this reality. Male attitudes, x well as female feelings of infer- iority, that are so antiquated as to predate an understmding of the equality of men and women I as reality, must die by choice or be killed by reason of insanity. How many of the attitudes of male supremacy and , "drivalry" (which is dis— tinct from courtesy) manage to survive, and even thrive, in sdalime stupidity in this supposed ageof mason, one can ' only wonder in abject Yet it is import- ant to note that the blame for the survival of these bits of our under- developed past must be placed equally upon women, as well as men. Waten who accept the actions accorded to ' "chivalry", such as (dates included) a total dependence upon male finances, and constant concession of the rigits to all decisions (major and minor) to the male in a relationship, sell themselves into slavery, ' and thereby prostitute their whole sex.
