The Eastern Gem Lodge, 1. O. G. T., of North Lake, was among the number of temper ance societies which recorded its disapproval. It will be remembered that the columns of the Patnot (?) newspaper was thrown to anonymous writers who used them to insult and abuse the temperance [t will be remembered that Op TN 15 ple ‘ on> of those writers, or a little clique writers, began a lengthy article wth the above heading, ‘“ Lest We Forget. rm Will you permit me, Mr. Editor, toremind the temperance people, 1d the temperance voters in par \icular, that this is the opportune time to remind Sir Wilfrid Laurier that the temperance people of Can ada cannot be insulted with impun ity. The time has come for the 278,487 voters who voted for pro- hibition to show Sir Wilfred who is | master. Temperance electors, don’t forget that every vote cast for Hughes, McKinnon, Davies, Bell or McLellan sa nail in prohibition’s coffin, and the rolling back of the tide of tem- perance influence for more than half a century. Let the temperance people of this Dominion pre-} sent a solid front to the enemy, and teach Tarte,Laurier & Co. that the people must rule; that the man- date of the people must be obeyed. Let me remind the temperance | electors that the leaders of| the present Government are in| league with the ‘‘rum party” of| (Quebec and using their influence to; further their interest, working | tooth and nail against the temper- | ance people. Let me remind temperance | societies that now is the time to do} all in their power to further the in- | terests Of the témpérance cause. | One ballot marked for the opposi- tion candidate will be worth more to the cause of temperance than all the resolutions passed in 1899. Let remind Tarte, Laurier & that the temperance people are | not all fanatics, and that. the tem- perance cause is Cearer to their ‘art than the retaining in power | a ccrrupt, extravagant and in- apa dle government.
