Young Lee was almest scared te death, but upon the advice of the supposed Miss Ludington he got ready to tight tho father. On Monday night the 26th ult., two hacks, loaded with the principals, | their seconds, physicians and friends, iaclud- ing \Liss Ludington, who was porson ated by a young man ino female attire, drevo to a vacant prairie west o! the city. The ground was staked off, the lovers embraced, and all was ready. The two antagonists levelled pistols xt each other, and. at the word, fire 30 kill, but the catridges were bianh, and the report was followed by aa explosion of laughter from the crowd, who could 90 longer restrain their mirth at the success of their joke. Young Lee, who had showed good nerve throughout, now stood the racket with the best grace possible, but he will horeafter avoil corresponding with mysterious young ladies. The police were much exercised over the affair, and were busy trying to tind out wether a duel had veally been fought. al The Whipping Post Wanted. Today aman who has been talking about ia connection with recent miscon- duct by which the happinessof a family was «destroyed, called at the Central Station for the clothes he had left behiad him when he was ejected from ihe house of his victim. The Chief of Police gave them to him, and also a lccture upon the enormity of his crime, adding that ha might consider himself lucky that his guilty life was nei taken by the hus- band whose houvor he had outraged. The chief wonders that the whipping post has been abolished and suggests that it be resuscitated for the benefit of such rascals as this so-called doctor.
