SUMMERSIDE -Out of the rip-roaring pages of America's pioneer history. when fierce frontier fighting between painted warriors of the Sioux Indian nation and the United States cavalry-men was at its height, has come Paramount's ex- citing new Technicolor drama ”The Savage." which opens today at the Capitol, summei-side. Set. against this tumultuous background is the moving story of a white man who had been raised as the adopted son of an Indian chief. Charlton Heston stars as the white skinned brave who finds the call of his blood tearing at the ties of his Indian allegiance when his tribe is threatened with extermina- tion by the onrush of civilizo.tion.. It, is Heston's activities in solving the dilemma of his conflicting loy- alties that lends impetus to the rousing action. Fighting on horse and afoot. with knives. bow and arrow, guns. cannons and even dyn- amite punctuntee the double-ban reled excitement. A sha-ttering cli- max is reached when the adopted Sioux warrior makes a decision based on the dictates of his con- science rather than his heart. ;. EHUHMAN ' l l KEISIIGTON -On charges of marketing po- tatoes without a producer-'s license, Mr. Aden Mulligan of Emerald. R.R., and Mr. Delbert Rayner of Travellers Rest were each found guilty in county magistrates court before Magistrate ll. S. Hinton, Q.C., at Summeralde yesterday. Mr. Mulligan was fined 375.00 and costs or one month and Mr. Rayner was fined 25.00 and costs or ten days. The difference in lines was due to the categories in which the defendants were placed as pro- ducers, Mr. Mulligan being sub- ject to s 575.00 license and Mr. Rayner being subject to a 525.00 license. In both cases no evi- dence was taken as the facts were admitted by counsel for the ne- eused. Both parties had previously pleaded not guilty and based their defense on points of law rather than fact. Two Fined For Marketing l Potatoes Without License 5 Written briefs were filed with the court by counsel on each side and .deslt with constitutional points of law, but Magistrate Hin-I ton stated he would he guided by-I the law as he found it in the statute books and said he would leave questions. of the constitu- tional validity of the statutes to a higher court. Mr. Gordon Msl'Milian of Char- lottetown acted as counsel repre- senting the Potato Marketing Board while Mr. D. 0. Stewart. Q.C., of Summerslde, represented Mr. Mulligan and Mr. Rayner. Two other similar cases beforel the court were further arijoiirneril until September 22nd for the tak-'; ing of evidence. l These were the cases of Sim-.l mans & MacFariane, and Leslie; Simmons, both of Summerside. The balance of the cases before the court---four niorr---were sect forl hearing on September Bth.- -S.' Miss Gladys Holmnn of Summerside won the Mrs. William MacKls- prize for the best. mixed bouquet. Highlight. 0! Show An interesting higiiliizht nf the show was the coronation basket competition consisting of red. white and blue flowers in while baskets. Seven entries were feat- ured in this display which was judged by popular vote. Each person received ll ballot. on enter- ing the hall and voted for the coronatlon basket of his or her choice. The coronation basket (No. 7) of Mrs. Gordon MacMillan of Cornwall received first place in the popular vtie while the second place award went to the basket (No. 2) of W. B. Creed, Highfield. While not entered in the coro- nation basket competition, a large artistic exhibit, prepared by Chief of Police Peter R. White was an important part of the coronation corner display and drew much favorable comment for its ori- ginality of design. This display featured a coronation crown of flowers prominent on a back- ground of flowers and including such varieties as asters, sweet alyssumii, gladiqll. white stocks and ageratum. This display re- ceived is special prize from the flower show committee.
