A wonderful invention in the shape of a portable telephone has just been made known by two Belgians. The machinery consists of a copper wire and a small bat- tery to be carried in the pocket. When required to communicate with persons at a distance the wires are simply stuck in the ground. King Otto of Bavaria is crazy on the sub- ject of shooting people. Every day he is allowed to take a gun containing a blank cartridge, and fire at a man who is pur- posely skulking among the trees on the Nymphenburg palace.
