Foot «f Tagish Lake, May 1.—We ar- rived here on April 26, are camped at the toot of the lake 60 miles below Lake Ben- net, and will remain until we build four brats. We were rather tired on ar- rival, and the oxen we worked bore a etrik- ing resemblance to DeCourcey’s famons colt. as it wasa hard one, and appeared to be gettiog harder the further we went. But when we gottothe Lake we took our whole outfit in one trip with eight exen. We had overaton on some of them. Since arriving here we killed an ox, and co bave been enjoying fresh meat—food fic for the gods. The balance of our cattle are about a mile from here, back near the mountain, in & marsh where there is lots of bunch grass. There is no sncw there and they are doieg fine. We consider our- selvesin luck to get such good feeding ground. Mciae and | spent half a day looking for e suitable place for our cattle. ‘Tbis spot ts a regular park, right in the middle of the woods near the mouota':D, with plenty of water aad feed sufficient to last a meatb. We expect to get out # here the lastof this mooth. Opposite our camp the lake is all open, but up further thre is two feet of ice.
