Governor. ‘ IIEREAS a certain Treaty was made between Her Majesty and the United States of America, on the 5th day of June, 1854, providing for Reciprocal Trade: _And whereas the United States of America have, in accordance wrth the terms of the said Treaty, given notice for the termination thereof. And whereas in consequence of such notice the said Treaty will expire on the Seventeenth day of March, lb’Gti. And whereas under the said Treaty many persons, citizens of the United States of America, have invested moneys and titted out Ships tor the purpose of carrying on the (in-shore) Fisheries with- in the Territory of Prince Edward Island, under the said Treaty. And whereas they may be unaware that their right to carry on such. in-shorc Fisheries will end on the said 17th day of March, instant. And whereas it is desirable that due precaution be taken to pre- vent injury or loss to any of Her Majesty’s subjects, or to the citi- zens ot' a State with which Her Majesty, the Queen of Great Britain, is happily in amity. Now, therefore, I have thought fit, by and with the advice of Her Majesty’s Executive Council of this Island, to issue this my Proclamation, and I do hereby caution and warn all persons, not subjects of ller Majesty. that after the 17th day of March, inst., no vessels owned and manned in the United States of America, can pursue the iii-shore Fisheries without ren- dering themselves liable to the confiscation of their vessds, and suchdothcr penalties, pecuniary and personal, as are bylaw im- pose .
