Abbott has undertaken the formation of a new Cabinet after having a full understanding with those of his col- leagues who had been spoken of in connec- tion withthe Premiership, and after receiving assurances from them of their cordial sup- port. a Sir Hector Langevin and Sir John Thompson | were both called upon by the Governor General, but both declined. Phe new cabinet will not differ materially from the old. No reconstruction is pro- bable till after the session. Having ac- cepted the premiership, Hon. Mr. Abbott’s first act was to resign from the directorate of the C, P. R., and to order the sale ef all his shares in that railway. IRISH ATFAIRS A NEW MOVE. New York, June 5. A Dublin despatch says that the Tele- graph confirms the news that the Irish bishops, finding the cost of maintenance ‘of the Irish members in parliament a heavy parochial drain, are working to secure the return to the House of Commons at the pext general election of wealthy candidates who will form the nucleus of the new Irish party. The Telegraph says that the selec- tion of these candidates has already com- menced. For various reasons the bishops will not support the election of several Mc- Carthyite members. Terrible Railway Accident. Lonpon, June 15. Advices of yesterday are to the effect that ® terrible railway accident has occurred at Switzerland. While an excursion train was passing over a bridge, the structure collaps- ed and the train fell through.
