sented, and this committee is empowered to examine and
_investigate all matters bearing on the finances of the
7Government. As our readers well know this is the com-
imittee which ferrets out any details in connection with
expenditures. If therehad been anything wrong in
the Government’s financing this committee would have
reported it, but reference to thejournals of the House
proves conclusively that the committee reported invari-
iably during the past three years that everything was
satisfactory. There was no minority report so that
the Opposition has not gone on record at any time point-
ing out what it considered irregularities' or useless ex-
penditure. The Government submits its accounts every
year to the committee, and on no occasion has the Oppo-
sition submitted a minority report. The inference is that
fheyfound nothing on which to base a minority report,
for if they had, or if they disapproved of the majority re-
port, they were quite at liberty to bring in a minority re-
port. To make general accusations now after having
failed to find fault at the proper time, is only to demon-
strate that they have nothing tangible to go upon, and
merely want to mislead the electorate by unprovcd al-
legations and gross misrepresentations.

The campaign is now drawing to a close, thc candi-
dates arc all nominated and the people will give their de-
cision on Thursday next. _
Looking backward over the campaign, summing up
the evidence adduced by both parties thc Grand Jury of
intelligent electors will find little difficulty in arriving at
a verdict. Sonic, no doubts, will be influenced by personal
considerations; a candidate may be a personal friend;
he may be a “good fellow” 'whom one would not care to
offend by opposing, and neither party has much to fear
on account of the personal character of its candidates.
These things, however, should not count. The future
welfare of this province depends very- largely upon the
S__i_Ze_ of the niajority that will be given the Arscnault
Government. There is now no doubt as to what the
general verdict shall be; no doubt that thc Arsenault
fiovernniclit shall bc returned, thc main th1:“._~,' is that it
shall be returned by a majority so large as to lot Ottawa
know that the province is solidly behind Premier Arsen-
ault in his demand for the settlement of the lsland’s
claims; solidly behind him in gratitude for what the
Federal Government has already done for Prince Ed-
ward Island.
The most ardent Liberal will admit, and many of
them have already openly admitted that the return to
power of the Liberal party under present conditions ard
under its present leadership, holds no prospect of bet-
terment for the province, that in fact; it would mean a
reversion to conditions from which the provin‘ce has ai-
ready suii"er`ed very seriously and which left a legacy of
evils of which a burdensome debt is perhaps the least.
The schools of the province have suffered irreparable in-
jury at the hands of the Liberal government and, judg-
ing by the program mapped out by Mr. Bell at the last
session of the legislature, would suffer even more seri-
ously if he were entrusted with their administration.
~ Upon what grounds does Mr. Bell solicit -the sup ~
port of the people of this province? He has published
his manifesto but the candidates claiming to be his fol-
lowers have studiously avoided all reference to 1`t. Any-
thing worthy of consideration in it is a repetition of' pol-
icies already either adopted or announced by Premier
Arsenault_ He places emphasis on our Federal claims as
if he were the sole originator and discoverer of these,
absolutely oblivious to the fact that the Conservative
Government had already presented these clairns; tl_~.at
some of them had been admitted and that consideration
had been promised the others; oblivious also to the incon-
gruity of seeking concessions from a Government which
he has persistently opposed and for the overthrow of
which he purposes going to Ottawa shortly as one of a
delegation. Mr. Bell’s chances of securing our provincial
rights are about as hopeless  anything well can be and
the people know it; they know also that Premier Arsen-
aiilt has already carried our claimsto a point where
they shall not be ignored by the Federal authorities and
that thei-_only reasonable possibility of securing these
claims is to 'let""Premier Arsenault continue his good
work. lThis the great majority of our people have al-
ready décided to do.__and -the greater the majority is the
better it will be for the province.
