(88eciai to the Guardian.) _LOND N, June 1.-Premier Asquitii inthe I-Ipuse of Commons today moved an- adfournment of Parlidment until June 20th which gave the members an .oxpovtunity to discuss any subject t by decided tb take up. .John Dillon, lrisli Nationalist, said there were matters connected with the recent rebellion in ireland such as the' continuance of martial law and the arrest of peaceful citizens of which lie would like to speak; However lie recognized it was impossible for any- one to enter upon these topics with- outengendering an amount of heat which might he extremely injurious to the interests of Ireland. Mr. Dillon did not take a hopeful view of the ef- forts now being made by David Lloyd George, Minister of Muliitions, to re- unite tire various irish factions. He said, however, that no Irishman with the slightest sense of responsibility or regard for the future would say any- thing which would increase the dlfll- cultiae _of Mr. Lloyd George. Mr. Dillon asked Premier Asquitb to state frankly on what principle pri- soners were going to be dealt with. At the present time he said there ap- peared to be no ,guiding principle. Spies of a-very objectionable charac- ter were being employed ln Dublin and the treatment of prisoners was “Bar- barous, and worse than the treament accorded German prisoners of war.” He appealed for decent treatment. Premier Asquith reiterated that “so far as is consistent with the vindica- tion of the law and the prevention of a recurrence of the outbreak the government will treat the insurgents with leniency and clemency." He saw no reason to depart from the gui- ding princlpleof the government’s po- licy. The prisoners were being re- leased as speedily as possible, he ad- ded. and only those concerned directly or indirectly with the rising, and those who return to ireland and might prove a source of danger, were being held. Eight hundred already had been re- leased be said. .-_-_-Y-,-¢:.A_-:_~.~_~:_-_-_A-f.~.~:_-_-_».-_-_ _-:_-_-.~. »L:.-_~_-_-.- -.i. ,The Trustees of the Prince Ed-I ward island Hospital beg leave to re- port as follows: this being the thirty~_ thgd annual reportz- ' uring the year just closed we haven been in full occupation of our addition- al wings and have had the increased staff required to carry on the work un- _ der the new conditions. We are, therefore, now in a position to form a correct estimate of the amount that will be required to maintain the insti- tution on the new scale. The year has had its trials for both the Trus- tee; and the Administrative staff, for it is no easy task to get an institution, of the size ours now is, into systema- tic working order. That we have achieved a satisfactory measure of» success is due to honest effort put forth-on the part of all and we deem it our duty to place on record our recoll- nition of the services of our Lady Su- p` intendent and her staff. agar financial statement shows that cdr receipts for the .year just ended. gmguiitgd to 316115.22; as compared with ;1:i58:i.00, lor the previous rearr- a.-.gdin oi $2532.22. our _alliances amounted to 310279-20 “ll °°mP“"°d with $15220. 13-nn increase of $1059.~ 07 Thus we closed the year ended Miy ist with ii tioiioit or $163.98. Needless to say thils expenditure has been far in excess of our antici- pations but, having commenced, the work had to be finished and we felt that in no other way could the money be expended to better advantage or more in conformity with the purpose of the Testator. We have now a well equipped Hospital adequate to s'erve the needs of this community for some .years to come and the service it is al-‘ ready rendering is the best possible justification of the wisdom of our uc- tion. , Our capacity even now is notmucli more than adequate to meet the de-' mands made upon it.
