N. B. Ho ihad been employ ed for hhe_post year at St. An- drew's, N. 3., and on tho fatal evening was returning home with other companions and while cross- ing Gibson Lake their small boat sank, bringing sorrow and heart- aches to several homes. Howard Gavin was born at Tig- nish twenty-four years ago, ohe son o! Emily Harper Gavin and the lato John R. Gavin. l-Ie at- tained his education in the local schools. I-le was a veteran oi the last war, having served three years with the Medical Corps of the Canadian Army, and received an- honorable discharge. Howard. was a young man who was very well liked. his thought- fulness and ready smile won for him countless friends who mourn his early death. but cherish tho memory of one they classed as a dear friend While living. Halifax; Lena, Eleanor and Maur- een at home. .On the morning of September 20th ‘tho funeral was held to the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude and was largely attended. The members of the Tlgnish Canadian Legion, in command of Corporal Howard Gaudet, slowly and silent- ly marched in the funeral proces- sion and upon reaching the church formed a guard of honor through which the flag-draped casket was carried by Hector Buote, Roy Mc- Leod, Alphonso Richard. Chester Hogan, Roland Harper and Fred Richard, all veterans and com- rades of the deceased. A Requiem I-ligh Mass was sung by the pas- tor, Rev. J. A. MacDonald, assist- ed by the church choir. services at. the grave were conducted by Father MacDonald assisted byRev. Louis Dooley, and burial was in the family plot in tho ohuroh cem- etery.
