This brings to mind two important points. The first is that if there is not 10% of the student body at a General Meeting no binding decision can be made. I would estimate that there was no more than 4% at last weeks meeting. The second point concerns my own opinion of our need for a new SUB.*My7perSOnal sol- ution to the problem is to sbuild.a.new gym and use the sold‘éne for Student Union . 3 The Cadre, Oct. 21, 1975, page 9 13-100 SHALT N01 114» MAKE FOOLS 0F stuns“: GOVIRNHINTIN PUBLKZ! 3.8.. Reporter’s Report Our university is too small for a monstrous complex. Please think about my sol— ution. Your (not the other sucker's) opinion (espec- ially disagreement) would be humbly and gratefully accepted by the Cadre, spec— 1 ifically, and anyone else on Campus, I'm sure. Yearbook was the next sub- ject on the agenda.Very little was discussed but a show of hands indicated that most people present wanted the yearbook to continue, even if it meant additional payment at registration. My sugg— estion is that the year— book be produced in a much less expensive manner, eg. paper cover. Anything of such sentimental value would surely be handled gently. I would be thrilled to hear you disagree. A description of 'Where we Fit' was next. Please see page 11 for particulars on this. 5 Last, although not on the pre—written agenda, was dis- cussion concerning the main— tenance workers strike and what support should be given by the student body. Ray Sha— lala provided the con to the question by reminding the meeting that any raise for the workers would probably be paid for by a raise in tuition fees in future years. This suggestion was reacted to violently and at one point reading this ii ‘the speaker had to remind one argumentative chap (so- From the SAINT WINDSOR rry I don't know his name) that the meeting must be conducted in an orderly fas- hion. Personally I feel that Ray's intention was good but that his point was trivial. An extra $5 per course is a sun“ sacrifice to give a fel— low human being a decent wage — to keep people who must support a wife and a family above the poverty line. U.P.E.I. is as good a university as any so we should be paying as much for tuition as anywhere else. Again comment on this iS' welcome. Decision of action was left in the air (see Stu- dent Union article page 3). I wrote this report be— cause I feel the topics dis- cussed were of importance to everyone at U.P.E.I. Let it be known that hereafter I will not report on something that everyone should have attended in person. The Gen— eral Meeting, if nothing else, was more interesting and thought—provoking than any class I've ever attended. If you were at the meeting, please tolerate my at—times- poor memory. If you weren't but wanted to beyplease tell anyone on Student Council or the Cadre staff if you have .conflicting class schedules for Thursday afternoon and when you would prefer the meeting to be.
