MacKenzie went overseas 1942 and has been with First Division tank unit for 18 months 1n Italy. Recently he was transfer-red to the Holland front. Flt-Lieut. D. Ian MacKenzie en- listed as a private in 1940 with the R.C.A.1". and went overseas in 1942 as a Sergeant. In England. he transferred to the RAF. and soon was promoted Pilot Officer. Before D-Day he was again pro- moted, this time Eight-Lieuten- . He has been on continual opesaticnal duty over Europe since ay. On one occasion he was the guest of a French couple for ‘a few hours in the French town nf Courcelette and was agreeably surprised when his hosts showed him a photo of his uncle, lit-Col. re D- Another arlottetown man whose picture the old couple had was that of Sgt. Harvey Douglas. brother of J. L. Douglas, MP. It is interesting note that Sgt. Douglas has visl ed the old French couple since D-Day. Major MacKenzle knows some- thing about war himself as he is a veteran of World War 1 and was severely wounded at Vimv Ridge. As a direct result of that wound. Major MacKenzie spent three and a half vears in a hospital and is silll suffering from the effects of the injuries received in that fam- ous battle.
