NEW YORK, Dec. 1-Mervyn Shaw, 26 years of age, who is walltcd in Toronto on li charge of appropriatink $76,000 from the Toronto offices of Swift and company, when in the em- ploy of that company as a $12 ll week collector and salesman, was held without bail yestcrdayifor ar- raignment before United States Com- missioner J. A. Shields in extradi- tion proceedings. Shaw was arrested tile previous night by detectives, who were search- ing the house in which he lived for stolen jewelry. Letters found in his room hearing Toronto postmarks, led the police to communicate with thc Toronto officials, wllo replied that they held a' warrant for Shaw's ar- rest for the theft of $76,000 from Swift and company, of Toronto.
