The trouble with this world is that there is too much greed everywhere. Sometimes it is found even on the Green Meadows and in the Green Forest. Greedlness is one of the worst forms of selfish- ness, Folks who are not selfish very seldom are greedy. Bobby Coon was feasting in the treetops. He was feasting in the treetops because in the treetops was one of his favourite foods in the autumn. You see grape vines climb. They had climbed up in the treetops along an old fence And now the grapes were ripe. They hung in purple and green clusters. Whats' that? You think I've made a mistake? No. I haven't. There is one kind of wild grapes that are ripe when they are still green. And both kinds were hang- ing in the treetops where Bobby Coon -was feasting. New Bobby was selfish. I suspect that most people are selfish at one time or another. They are most likely to be selfish when they have least cause to be. Looking: down from his high perch in the treetops Bobby could see Raddy Fox sitting on the ground below and looking mp Ionglngly. You i didn't know that Reddy Fox is l W contract Bridge By Jolepblno Culbertson ...om A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE A substantial "swing" occurred in the following deal. in I. team- of-itour match. because of the dif- ferent bidding techniques of the two South players. Grapes are a treat to Reddy when he can get them. But he couldn't get those grapes up in the treetops. Of course not. Raddy isn't ll climber. He can sometimes get a little way up in the tree. but seldom more than a little way. on the other hand, his cousin. Grey Fox. is P1 very good climber. Had he been in place! of Reddy, he would have climbed up in the tree to get his share. -Bobby Coon ate and ate. Those grapes tasted gocd. Now and then he would drop one and he -would grin to see Roddy Fox gobble it up. Yes, sir. he would grin to see Red- cly Fox gobble grapes up of! the gmrund. They would roll under the leaves on the ground. but Red- dy would find every one. it was such a simple, nice little thing that Bobby Coon might have done. lie might now and then have drop- ped it whole bunch. He didn't. No. sir, he didn't once drop a whole bunch. There were more grapes than he could possibly eat at one time, but he was selfish and greedy. He wanted all for himself although he eouldnt eat all of them. selfishness and greed are always like that. so he just stuf- fed himself Azfter a while Reddy Fox went away. And a little later Bobby Coon couldn't eat another grape, He had stuffed himself, and not another grape would go down. Bobby debated. should he rest up there in the trcetnp. or should he go back home. His stcmach was so full that he didn't feel like mov- ing. No, sir. Bobby didn't feel like moving. After a. while Bobby didn1 even feel like sitting still. He want- ed to lie down. The truth is, Bob- by Ccon had a stomach ache. Green apples and stomach aches often go together. Not far away was an old nest. of Blacky the Crow. In fact. it. was in the next tree. Bobby decided that that was a good place to which to take his stomach. so he climbed down from the tree he was in and climb- ed the other tree. He climbed up to Blacky's old nest, and he took his stomach ache -with him. "I wish." whincd Bobby. "I hadn't eaten so many of those grapes." 5.14 waxes; QAK73 .453 . A8. The first south expressed this idea by jumping straight to five spades-but his effort was fruitless.
