The total for the five centres during the week wae 1,383 don- ors or about 77 percent of the Firemen Quell S’Side Blaze SUMMERSIDE An early morning fire in the basement of a dry cleaning plant sent tenants of a second floor apartment scurrying for safety. Summerside firemen were able to extinguish the blaze before the flames reached the ground floor although several beams and flooring supports were charred. No damage resulted to clothing in the plant for dry cleaning pur- poses. The fire is believed to have started around an oil furnace. An employee of the Victory Cleaners Ben Arsenault, who oc- cupies an apartment on the sec- ond floor was awakened by smoke about 5.30 a.m. He rushed his wife and two- year-old child from the burning building and also awakened an- other tenant, Ada Jackman. Aa- other tenant, Dorothy Smith, who occupies the apartment with Miss Jackman, had already left the building about 4.30 for her em- ployment at the RCAF Station.
