McCREADY, Editor _ Residence Telephone 32 v SATURDAY AUGUST 15 15113. THE NEW BRUNSWICK PRESS AND HON- NR. BLAIR. Mr. Blair in retiring from the Govern- ment and vigorously attacking their rall- way policy has evidently lost less than he has gained in the way ot support from the newspapers of his Province. In years past when he was premier of New Bruns- wick he had the hearty support of the St. John Telegraph, the leading Liberal journal of New Brunswick, and it stands by him heartily si ill. The St. John Globe, of which Senator Ellis is editor and the Moncton Transcript gave him a half- hcazted support at times and a good deal of criticism at others. He was never a favorite with them. The St. John Sun. the leading Conservative organ in the Province and the Moncton Times in ihoae days and down to the date of his resigna- tion vigorously, contiuuously and some- times bitterly assailed him. ‘L To-day The Globe stands with the Gov- ernment and opposes Mr. Biair’s present attitude, even going so tar as to intimate him overboard and get another candidate views of the public interest requires this of him.” This candid admission of The mer coolness toward Mr. Blair. The Moncton Transcript stands close with the Government policy, which it conceives will do much for the upbuilding of that city and is now pretty severe upon Mr. Blair. In strong contrast with these Liberal papers in the changed attitude oil Mr. Blair-'s former opponents, the St. which it characterises as , remarkably impersonal.” He treated the bill harshly, ut that was legitimate, and the bill “deserved all it got.’ Coming to its more general features The Sun says: i bill is one of the events ot the session. It is sure t. be more fully reported and to command more attention than the address of Sir Wilfrid Laurier explaining and de- ' tending the measure.
