As the residents of Souris West are justly entitled toa share of railway accommodation, the track on the Peach should be kept in repair. Tue Prince County Exhibition opened at Summerside to-day. A special train, eontain- iag His Honor the Lieut -Governor and Suite, teft the city at 9.30 this morning. The band of the 82nd Battalion, and a large number of citizens also, left in the special train to be in attendance at the Exhibition. Hareexy AND Picram Martcuep.—The backers of Michael Happeny (formerly of P. E. Island) and Piggam, met in Boston on Fri- day evening, at 103 Cambridge street, and arranged matters for the race to be run Oct. 3, on the Boston base ball grounds, at 3° o'clock, p. m. Tue following passengers arrived per steam- er ‘‘Carroll ” yesterday : Mrs. Rodgers, Misa Palmer, Mr. James Palmer, Miss Maggie M. Aitkens, Miss Dority, Miss Lizze McDonald, Miss Catherine McQuaid, Miss Maggie Mc- Kinnon, Miss Munroe, Messrs, A. Lawson, A. H. Porter, @. W. Winer, W. Bovyer. A younG man from the country who had been fowling a few days ago shot a partridge * and yesterday brought it to the city and ex- it for sale on the market square. He was shortly arrested by the police for shooting partridge out of the season; but, as he was only one day ahead of the usual time of shoot- ing those birds, the Fish and Game Society did not. think his prosecution expedient. He was, therefore, released. . CavixsaANk’s Borrie.—The very tonching and true narritive of the Latimer family, il- lustrated with 8 paintings, the work of our fellow townsman, G. W. Millner, Esq., will be exhibited im this city next Menday and Tuesday. Mr. Millner will recite the “Old Oaken Bucket.” The singing will be under the leadership of Mr. D. M. Fraser.» Don’t miss it. Tue Tea Party at Souris on Monday was a suecess financially and socially. Children, husbands, wives and sweethearts went in for a jolly good time. Everything passed off pleasantly—the greatest harmeny prevailing during the day. The Rev. Pastor of St, Mary’s Parish, aided by an active and ener- getic Committee, deserve great credit for the manner in which the arrangements were car- tied out. Harvestixc.—Many farmers throughout the country are still engaged at harvesting. The grain this season has been unusually slow ia ripening. The yield will be, never. theless, more than the average. Farmers, this year, ‘have shown wisdom in sowing wheat abundantly instead of oats as formerly. In an agricu)tural country like this we should surely endeavor to produce our own bread- stuffs— enough and to spare. Fouxp Guutty oF Murprr.—The trial of Clark Brown, the West Winchester murderer, was concluded on Saturday evening. The jury, after short deliberation, brought ina verdict of guilty, The prisoner was then sentenced to ke hanged on the 21st Oct.— {Clark Brown, it will be remembered, was ar- rested on suspicion as being the murderer of his father and sister, and confessed to the crime. | Tea Apvancine.—We are informed that @ ving to a short crop of tea in China, and the tact that tea afloat as well as stocks in Eng land are less than at the same period last year, tea has advanced in London about two pence per lb, on the ordinary grades which go into consumption here. Teas have been cheap for several years past, or lower than they are likely to be for a year or two tocome. It is said taat the Russians have recently bought some parcels of the lower grades in the Eng- lish market, which has helped to stimulate sales there.— St.John Sun. PoraTors, Erc., FoR ENGLanp.—The price this article of the food supply has risen con- siderably in price recently in England, owing to the almost entire failure of the po- tate crop in England, Holland and Belgium. It is of importance to the farmers and shippers of New Brunswick to know that facilities are arranged by which they can make shipments to this new market. Messrs. Stevenson & Co., of 55 Victorian street, Liverpool, who are Canadians of good standing, have for some time been engaged in handling Canadian pro- duce, and are prepared to advance 50 per cent. of the cost here upon potatoes shipped by steamer. We hear that oysters may also be very profitably shipped to England at present. — St, John Tel.
