However. hen Labor Day rolls around bring ng with it the re- opening of schools across Cannda and the United States the foreign license plates begin to disappear from the Island. The Labor Day week-end just finished brought the customary influx of visitors but these will be returning to their homes during the coming week. One of the best indications of the volume of traffic during the past. two months are the figures kept by the ferries at Borden and Wood Islands. These are available up to August. 30 and show a defin- ite increase in the number of vis- itors to Prince Edward Island this summer. Cars coming into the Province during July and August this year showed an increase of 2.248 over the same period last year. The same is true of registrations at the Travel Bureau in Charlotte- town. In July of this year there were 411 more signatures in the vlsitors book than there were in July of 1950. The increase in Aus- ust this year over the same month of 1930 was 815. Total registrat- ions in the Travel Bureau's book during July and Atlgust this sum-; mer was 4.463. llowever, many persons do not visit the Bureau during their visit to the province. He was the founder of the splendid band we He worked tirelessly towards the attainment of a- new Legion Home. He was a conscienti- ous and eager officer of this Com- mand. Mel Titus would have been very proud if he were here todav. We miss his wise counsel and his enthusiastic labours. Year of Steady Progress ”The past year has been one of steady progress and gratifying re- sults. Our Comrades in Alberton rank with their comrades in Sum- mcrside in establishing in their tmvn a fine new home. Comrade Bob Dunn and the members nf Albertou Branch have proved themselves worthy members of the Canadian Legion and have made their branch 3. banner example to our other branches in their attain- ments in 1950-51. ”Prince County has shown us this year what a small branch and a large branch can do if the" mem- bers buckle down and work. I hope the examples set in Albcrton and Summerside will be a tehnt in the arm' to others and that be- fore long our comrades in the oth- er provinces will add to the many complimentary nick-names of our Province "The show-place of the Canadian Legion! "During my tenure of office there were only two meetings of our Provincial Command Execu- tive. Many matters ewere dealt with by telephone communications and our efficient Secretary, Jim Walker, has kept his desk clear by immediate dispatch of business. .Two very successful zone rallies .were held during the year. One lust fall was held in Cardigan for otlr branches, in King's County. "This rally was largely attended. The Department of Veterans' Af- fairs cooperated with us in pro- viding a team of experts on veter- ans' affairs to answer questions on veterans welfare. A similar rally was held in Ellerslie for our branches in Prince County during the spring. This rally was most enthusiastic and well attended.
