A bold atterapt was recently made by a disreputable looking woman to kidaap a child of six years of age, a daughter of Mrs. Dunn, of Sand Point, Carleton, N. B, The woman was begging and succeed- ed, Ly giving the child candy, in enticing her away. The child was identified by some one who knew her and who asked the woman whose child she had with her. She declared the girl was her own and she was going to the train, intending to go to Frederieton, The gentleman rescued the child in the nick of time. There was quite a sensation among the Halifax aldermen at their meeting on Friday when a number of communications were read from ratepayers declaring that they never signed or authorized their signatures to a number of petitions for liquor lieeuses to which they had been affixed. . In Halifax no liquor license can be granted without the consent of the majority of the ratepayers resident in the district and the genuineness of the signa- tures have to be sworn to by the party obtaining them. The chairman of the License Committee declared that he be— lieved one-third of the names on the petition were forged and it was high time this frightful amount of fraud, forgery and perjury was punished. Au English officer, who sold out of a erack cavalry regiment some twelve months ago, applied the other day to go out as a volunteer tothe Cape. Ile was told that his offer could not be accepted, for the Horse Guards had already been obliged to refuse nearly two hundred of- ficers in the service belonging to regiments at home who had volunteered to go out to Zululand. ‘In facet,’ said one of the military officials, ‘we could form a pretty) strong mounted squadron composed only of the cavalry officers on home service who have volunteered for service at the Cape.” The number of officers already cn orders for special duty at the Cape exceeds anything of the kind in remem- brance ; and very many of these volun- teers are swells belonging to the Guards, the Ifousehold Cavalry, and other crack corps at home.’ Ask Yourself these Questions. Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Constitutional Ren.edy. T. J. B. Harpre, Esq., Brockville, Ont. :— Deak Srr—It is now two years since your ““Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. I have waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing thia, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to true.” . I was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par- ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop”’ from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit up in the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for acold in my head, A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh Remedy and take no other. T. J. B.
