It was in 1885 that young men like Kenneth Martin and George Robinson from Dalhousle Univer- Johnston from McGili brought back stories of football games and fired the enthusiasm of college students here. Books on rugby rules were ob- tained and the group got permis- sion to use what is now known as Memorial Field for practices and games. Among the men to carry the goal posts and cross bars to the field was Dr. H. H. Shaw, B.Sc.. LL..D.. rctircd Superintendent of Ecluciiiion, the only surviving member of the original Abegweit football team. With him were Percy MacDonald, Hooper Robin- son and Charles Kennedy. Games were arranged as often as posiblc and on October of that year a game between the "Scotch" trim nnd "All-Comcrs" was played with the "Scotch" clowning their opponents by ll score of 13-2. Tuesday. capital Expansion Takes lip 23 Per cent Of 1952 Production MONTREAL. Dec. 25--(CP)- Canada's capital expansion pro- gram in 1952 took up at most 23 per cent of the country's total available production and a rising volume of new construction under way points in ii further increase next year, the Bank of Montreal said todsy in a year-end business review. The review said 1952 whole has been .1 good year." although the record is still in- complete. -The gross value. of Can- adals national production may well have increased by seven or eight per cent in value due. about equally, to higher domes- tic prices and in greater volume, of output. The increase was less than re-1 corded in either of the two pre- ceding years and most, Canadian business men could look back on 1952 as 11 year of narrowing mur- gins between costs and prices. K . . the lifting of restrictions on steel for non-essential con- struction and the termination of deferred depreciation at the end of this month should release a good many capital cxpnnsion plans that have been postponed. for the past two years.” Another element of strength in 1952 was the ”marked improve- ment" in Canada's balance of trade. Overseas export markets were; less receptive but rcarmament, and private capital expansion ap- peared likely to exert. larger claims on available resources and ”to these is now added a brisk level of retail demand." "on the Farm Income O'I'I'AWA, Dec. 26 -(CP)- Cosh income received by Canadian farmers totalled 31.840.000.000 in the first nine months of 1952, the Bureau of Statistics reported This is a decline of more than 535,000,000 from 51.876.000.000 in the same period last year, the bureau said.
