Theycan bie average Senate Candidate My name is Bob Smith, and | am a candidate for the position of student representative on senate. I ama third-year political studies major, and president of the UPEI Debating Society. The senate is the supreme policy-making body at UPEI, and it is crucial for the student population to have experienced and thoughtful representation on it. For the past year-and-a-half, I have been one. of two students representing the student popula- tion of UPEI on the Academic Review and Planning Committee. Briefly, this body advises the sen- ate on long-term planning, and _works closely with it in the for- mation of new programs and aca- demic policy. In my work on this committee, I have dealt with President Eliot, and several other key faculty members on senate. I have also spent many hours dis- cussing and trying to gain a bet- ter understanding of the same is- sues and problems that come be- fore the senate. In my eighteen-or-so months representing all of us on the ARPC, I have always spoken out for our interests when I felt they weren’t being served, and in this, I feel I have represented us well. I believe it is important for a rep- resentative to give voice to those student concerns which otherwise might not be heard. I have been deeply committed to ensuring we are listened to in the Senate plan- ning process, and now I ask you to give me the opportunity of rep- resenting us on the senate itself.
