Sir,—It is surprising tbat Premier Far qubarson should Jay himeelf open to the charge of attempting 'o cif-nd the clergy of a! denominations in this province. But it seems that they are not the class of people be wishes to associate with, and he i¢ pot particular whether he pleases them ornot. About 8 yesarago he dismissed from offige a faithful servant—a minister ofthe Preebyterian Church—thereby of fending not only the people of thai de- noiwivation bat aj! right-thinking people of every creed. But bis latest insult to one of the Roman Catholic clergy is someth'ng that will not pass unnoticedn or ucheeded. What is the reason that the dis ribuuion of the paupers’ grant has bees taken out ot the hands of the Rev. Dr. Chaissoa and given toH. J Pineau? Is it because the rev. gentleman could not be trusted ? [~:t because they had no faith in the post respected of clergy, vr is it becauee they thcught that he would give it to the decerving poor ?— peibaps to old women » bad no votes, and that thr partizan purpete intended to be served by the moicey voted by this pure and honest administration would thus be disregarded. vo reason that can be given is sufficient to sbi eld tbe government ‘eon the suspicion ot » deliberate attempt to insult the Rev. Dr Chaisson. What will the country think of & gov- ernnent that havea betteropinion of a pol.tical Judas than they bave of the faiti.ful servant of Him who wis beiray- ed? There can only be “oue answer io this question, ard that answer will come iu @ Cuvsiiiuiioual way,aod the Premier w::/ find cut what he is (thought of when it will be too Jate to rewedy bis mistakes. Bat in the meantime whatever the Preto: eays isdone ; acd he will find soon that it is too late in the nineteenth century to attemp? to introdu info th 8 country the despotic rule of Russia.
