to shoo it away. Time and time again the bird attempted to reach the feeder, 
     
     but without deiay the wasp was out in hot pursuit fiying and diving within 
     
     inches of the bird as it twisted and turned to escape this minute enemy. 
     
     Bearing in mind the primary purpose of our feeder, we rather reiuctantiy 
     
     had to dispose of this gaiiant iittie fighter, and ieft the feeder once again 
     
     to our hummingbird friends. 
     
     Editors Note: This has been an eventfui summer for Pat and the hummingbirds. 
     
     Pat reported to me that eariier this summer that he feit a sharp rap on his 
     
     head while in his woodiot and, shortiy thereafter, a second sharp rap. A 
     
     hummingbird had hit him twice on the head with its biii. Perhaps Pat had 
     
     wandered too close to its nest, a tiny cup usuaiiy constructed of piant down, 
     
     fibers, and bud scaies which is attached on the top surface of a branch with 
     
     spider webs and covered with 1ichens.
