Mr. Hughes was born in the County Armagh, Ireland, 1794. and emigrated to this Island in 1839. He immediately set- tled om a farm at Fort Augustus, where he resided and prospered until his decease. He was a very ardent temperance man, and pre- served the Father Matthew pledge inviolate to the end.
