I believe, also, we will have to try and make good use of The Barn year round and that means renting The ' Barn during the Sumner. I believe this could be a major source of income for the' Student Unicn. ‘ As a Student Union, we should_be trying to make a profit and then begin to reinvest that profit back into the S.U. of all students. By rein— vesting, we are assuring high standards of quality. In conclusion, I would like to impress upon you what I_be1ieve. The S.U. has been declining for two years. Now I believe I can help change that downward trend and bring about a change in direc— I am not going to make all kinds of promises, instead I am going to ccmnit myself to work as hard as I possibly can to make the Student Union work for the better of all the students and not just a small select group. I believe I can do the job of Vice—President better than any of the other candidates, and if you give me a chance, I'll prove it to you over the next year; Thank you. , Bob Kelly Politics is a natural interest to a third year for the benefit istudents of U.P.E.I. THURSDAYS mom 7 - 9 pan. political science-student. ‘.My interest in student pol- itics stems from a deep con- cern for the future of the U.P.E.I. Student Union and my university. _ I ‘For.far too long students have been content to sit back and complain about. the lack of adequate facil- ities, boring social life, and increasing drain on their bank accounts each September. Complaining alone never changed any- thing. It's time for everyone to get off their butts and get involved. “ Very simply, that's why I'm offering as vice- president. ‘I want to see-- and will work toward--stu- dent government better' representing student in#' ' terests, stand up for their concerns rather than meekly accept the status quo. We students must press for a greater voice in all matters which affect us. We deserve no less. _ It is only by showing this kind of inspirational leadership that the stu- dent body will begin to show some confidence in student government. This confidence will translate into greater involvement in S.U. activities. The problem of how to revi- talize the Barn will be then partially solved; students will reflect a new spirit in their relationships, and the university as a whole will benefit. 4 I look forward to playing a part in turning the tide of apathy. I believe I can carry out the responsi- bilities of the office; Five years as a journalist‘ together with a post as public relations director for a junior hockey team, and.involvement in Symposium have shown my capabilities. Working together, the; can make a difference. I ask for a chance to help. ‘ CAMPUS AT THE CHAPLAINCT CENTRE ON TUESDAYS FROM. 2 — h,p.m., on'wnnnnsmrsmon 2 ‘— h p.m., mow ‘ Union. COMPTROLLER . Scott Thomas V - This is my second year "in the pre-Engineering program, and I have ‘ studied electives in the faculties of Economics and Business Administration. During my time at UPEI I have been-a regular bartender at the Student I have also played* a variety of sports, including.intercollegiate football, intramural basketball, and rugby. I have been further involved in varioUS committees and organizations, such as The Engineering Society and The Concerned Students Committee. Through these bodies I have had ample opportunity to work with' . the Comptroller and the Student Union as a whole. One of the major problems that I have seen with the Comptrollers Office is the student body's ignorance as to the responsibilities of the job. The ComptrOller is responsible for the Barn, Campus Police, operation of the Bar, and just recently, the Campus Radio Station, CIMN. It is the most useful and down to earth office Of the Executive Council. While away from school. I was employed mostly in the construction industry where I learned the true value of a business-like practice. I worked as a carpenter, plumber, landscaper, labourer, maintenance man, cook, land bartender, all of Lwhich has given me a broad .and practical eduCation towards a better understand! ing of day to day life. Last summer I had the opportunity to work with the past comptroller at various events in the Barn. A substantial profit was made then which helped defer the fixed costs during the academic year. I would like'to see the Barn ‘ JJUI thV'LI ~'.. Jxfigh put to better use during the summer, and I feel thfi the experienCe gained last summer is an advantage to me in that I have already worked with.and assumed an of the respohsibilities of the Comptroller's Office. In my two years as a rem .bartenden the past and ,present administrations of the Student Union saw fit to entrust in me, on numerous occasions,,full responsibility for events at the Barn.: As a result I opened and closed the -Barn and took responsibin for everything in betWeen. On these occasions one sea a very enlightening side to the responsibilities ‘of the Comptroller's offim. One recent change in thei reSponsibility of the Comptroller is that he is now responsible for the Campus Radio Station, CIMM I have spent a good deal of time up at the station and at the Student Union investigating the problems the station is encounteng ‘ I think the station shouk J contunue with a ICOmmItment from the Student Union. | feel that my past record of being a responsiM and reliable Student Union worker qualifies me for Hm pesition of Comptroller. I My other endeavors further strengthen my capabilities to uphold the responsibilh of the office. - All I ask is that the student body get out and support their respective candidates to give the upcoming-Executive a true indication of support and direction.
