MONTREAL, Dec. 29-To Mon- treal’s many troubles resulting from lack of water was added yesterday serious dlfliculty in lnnndry work, at least one large laundry being famed to close and send delivery wagons over the route in order that their custoiilers might keep parcels to ‘tne end ol the week when it is hoped they will resume service. A peculiar fea- ture is that most of the Chinese laundries are able to keep 'going. Tha ,net result is that some laundries closed altogether while others must send their goods to laurulries outside the zone of trouble. HALIFAX, December 29.- What has happened to the Mahone Bay schooner Iona. W.? Almost a month ago she left a Prince Edward island port with produce for Liver- pool, and is now three weeks over- due. The last report of the Iona W. is so ominous that it is feared sbs has met disaster somewhere at sea between Halifax and Whitehead. Whether or not this is true will he determined by the government steam- er Montmagny, which was ordered out yesterday to search for the .m_»iss- ing craft. The Iona W. was last seen in early December breasting a. heavy U10# 011 Whitehead. Apparently her sails had been blown away. Bix men were aboard her when she sailed out of Georgetown, Prince Edward Islknd, and it is the hope that the vessel is merely disabled and drifting and that the crew are standing by he`l', that the Montlnagny sets out to-day. No report of a BhiP B0 d0U\l8°ll has reached Halifax by the coasting steamers and schooners coming -along that coast, but it is believed the Ions W. has drifted out of the regu- lar track _of navigation. Accordingly the captain of the Montmsgny was notified at Louis- burg last evening.
