Vicroria, B. C., Aug. 7. Albert Frank, owner of the Black Dia- mond, has arrived from San Francisco. He was not much surprised to find his schooner in the harbor, he and all other sealing owners having given the captains instruc- tions to resist to the utmost. In case of seizure or a prize crew being put aboard, the captains were, if possible, to bring the prize crew and all, to Victoria. Collector of Customs Hamley has Lieut. Tuttle’s letter of instructions to mariner John Hawkins, who was first put in charge of the Black Diamond, and this with full information he has forwarded to the Min- ister of Customs at Ottawa. He and Vice- Cunsul Marvin say they have heard of ‘no action being taken by either Governments. Hawkins sailed on the mail steamer Anson on Friday to join the Rush. He was the subject of considerable chaff. QurBec, Aug. 7. Mercier and McShane arrived this morn- ing, and the rumor is received that the latter will re-enter the ministry. MinNEApPouts, Minn., Aug. 7. Forgeries to the amount of nearly $300, - 000 have been committed in the name of John 8S. Blaisdell, one of the wealthiest and best known residents of Minneapolis, The report last night was that a young lawyer, in that city, who is well known and popu- lar, anc whose father is a wealthy and prominent man, has been robbing Blaisdell for a long time by a series of systematic forgeries, and that when the fact was dis- covered a day or two ago the total amount | of his gains was in the neighbor- hood of $200,000. Owing to the previous good character of the man and the high social and business position of his family, asetliement was agreed to on the whole amount obtained on Blaisdell’s signature. He returned to that geutleman the large amount of the forgeries, together with the social and business prominence of the par- ties concerned. He promises to make the case one of the most sensational ever known in the Northwest. If the matter is not settled at once, criminal action will be begun. ; Disorderly Strikers. Prrrspure, Pa., Aug. 7. A mob of strikers assaulted a number of Hungarians who had returned to work at the Carrie coal furnace near this city to-day, and drove them away. One Hungarian was beaten so badly that he will probably die. A Sheriff's posse interfered and a free fight followed. Deputy Sheriff Sweeney was probably fatally shot. The strikers were finally driven off. Caught at Last. Monrreat, Ang. 7. Last May Octave Meunier, aged 25, Quebec Agent of the Citizens’ Insurance Company, was short to the extent of $2,400 and left the country. He was arrested ia Albany, N. Y., yesterday by Detective Grose, brought here and sent to Quebec for trial. He says he is not guilty. Total Wreck. Farner Pornt, Aug. 7. The steamer Montreal, of the Lominion Line, outwardbound, ran into a sandbank on Sunday night in the Straits of Belleisle, and became a total wreck.
