Here is the story of Misa Trowp’s haroiem as 11d by the New York eurreepondeat of the Boe- ton Record : — The fire had its heroine who eaved life Her name ie Mise Frances Troup, and to \ her courage, devotion aud presence of wind { Miss Frances Leland, the youngest gaugh- ter of the proprietor of tue potel, owes her life, Mies Troup is a trained suree, and ro accustomed to think first of others. Mies Frances Leland is an invalid, a victim of epilepsy. She iealsolame. She wae ip her room in the hotel, Ne. 520, on th tifih floor of the Fifth ave. side, when the two voutg women heard the alarm Miss ‘Troup opened the door. Flame aod smoke burst upoo Ler. She placed a handkerchief about her charge’s face to protect ber from tbe smoke, and then starte/ for a fire~escape. They reached the fire escape. Then the emoke grew thicker and more suffo-~ cating. They ceuld hear the crackling of the flames, The sick womafl did vot dare trust to the fire escape. She coald not go down alone, and they were five stor e: above the etrcet, Mies Troop thought and acted quickly. | She teld Miss Leland to throw her arms >bou' her neck and hold on wth all ter inight: Misa Troup pleted Mies Lelaou partly ih front of ber acd parily to one side, 0 she could place her arm about her burden and still grasp the rounds of the iron ladder. Then came the descent. People who saw them through the smoke shuddered. It seemed iniposeible for the nurse to carry that burden tothe street. But there was nothougbt of failure in her own mind. She koew that ber skirt might trip ber, wterefere she was careful, and that meant -lower progress. And the burdem upon her was so great that abe f.l: thatthe skin was being torn from her hands. She for- got berown agony in cheering and com- forting the sick women. physical power. There was one more «tory. She conld hear the shoats of the firemen, the hoarse cries of euconrageme:t . above the roar. The last platform was reached and Mies Troup sunk faiting into the arme of a fire- man who had raieed a ladder. She and Miss Lelaod were carried to the street, and the former was taken immediately 10° Miss Gould's house, ecross the way. In the confusion Miss Troop lost Mies Leland, add it was ten minutes or more hefore she learned wherethe inval:d had been taken. Then she joined Miss Leland. ++e+e— PERSONAL. Mr. J. W iow. to-day.
