While every man is primarily interested in his own affairs, all are, or ought to be interested in learning about the progress of the Dominion. We therefore abstract the following figures from the Canadian Year Book showing some features of Canadian progress during the past few years. . In 1896 the total receipts of the Dominion treasury amounted to $36,618, 590. In 1899 the receipts were $46,742,103. In 1&6 the total exports of Canada were $121,013,852 and in 1&9, $l58,&l6,w5. 1n- crease in three years $37,&l.iB‘.}. In 1&6 the imports of Canada amounted ty $118,011,513, and in 1899 to $16236-i,3iB, the increase being $44,752,801. In HB the volume of our trade, being the grand total of imports and exports, amounted to $22-ll,085,ZHl and 1&J9 to $32l,%1,213. The increase was $82,635,853. In the same three years we increased $36,481,948, and with the United States by ;ss,i1s,2ss. ~ In 1836 we shipped only 1,646 cattle to rate of interest about 3§ pe: cent. _The interest rate on the entire debt of Canada lrst year averaged only 3.14 per cent, or a lower rate than that at which the British Government is borrowing.
