WEDDING BELLs -- A quiet but piety wedding took place at Saint Dunstiins Basilica on Wednesday morning, November 27th., 1929. , the contracting parties being John J. Auffrey of Fairfleld, P. E. 1., lindl Elizabeth M. Weathcrbic of Char- lottetown. The bride was tastefully aJLired, in a dress of sand silk crepe with hat and coat to match and was attended by-her cousin Miss Mary Kelly. The groom was ably supported by Mr, James A. Weather- bie, brother 01 the.bride. After the ceremony the, bridal party motored to the home -of the bride's motherw where an enjoyable breakfast was served. After dinner the couple mo- tored to the home of the groom's parents where a supintuous supper was served. after which they danced until the wee ma’ hours of the morning. Then the party departed to their homes. wishing Mr. and Mrs. ‘Auflrey, a long and happy wedded life. The presents which were numerous and costly showed the esteem in which the young cou- ple was he'ld._Before‘ the wedding the bride was tendered two miscel- laneousshowers. one at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Weatherbic. Stewart-Street and the other at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Mc- Innis, Upper Queen street, at which the presents received were numer- ous and useful. Malcolm Gillis. of the C. N. R. car shops. Charlottetown. retired from active participation in railroading, at the end of November. It is almost t0 years since Mr. Giilis first began railroading.‘ his initial experience be- ing with the Denver and Rio Grandc road in 1881-1885. Later he worked with the Philadelphia Engineer Works and went to Nova Scotla to install a blast furnace for the steel works at Trenton. The work there occupied two years. He later went back to Philadelphia. More recently he proceeded to Pennsylvania to re- pair furnaces. l-le then went to New Brunswick where he was engaged in railroad construction for three or four years. At the conclusion of that work he came to Charlottetown. his native city. where he entered the employ of the Island railroad in 1904. l-le was engaged with Otto Baird. Foreman. and Angus Mclnnis. ill installing the first airbrakcs on Island cars. This task was completed after two and a half years of strenuous work. The coaches were first given air-brakes. and then tile box and flat cars rc- ceived similar equipment. Later Mr. Glllis entered the car shops” which were thcn under the supervision of Henry Coffin. For about a decade he worked in the coll- struction of coaches. During a num- ber oi years he ‘has been pattern maker, ior locomotives.‘ Within his entire railroad service Mr. Gillis has never been injured in any vl-ay. The only accident he can recall happen- ed some fifteen years ago when one of the workmen was struck by a piece of a rotary saw. and was ill- capacliated for several months.
