The steamer was obliged to run away to the South- ard in order to get clear of it. The brigan- tine Birdie (of P. E. Island), Rankia master, which arrived at Halifax on the 3rd inst., sailed from Alberton, P. E. I., with a cargo of produce, Dec. 24, for St. John’ s, Nfld., but found it impossible to get to St. John’s on account of the large quantities of ive on the coast, and had to put back to Halifax. She had a hole knocked in her starboard bow by the ice.
