The Pictou Standard says that every coal mine in Pictou County is now raising all the coal possible, and every miner has all the em- ment he wants; that the miners have had so much work this summer they are now tak- ing matters easy, and indulge in a few holidays each month, which the managers unwillingly eoncede, and that the prospects for ship- ments this fall are very good. And, this the Standard claims, is due to the change of tariff. The Halifax Chronicle on the other hand says that the coal trade of Nova Scotia has been injured by the new policy.
