"The neurotic symptom is pres- ent because of anxiety and is an attempt to relieve anxiety. Anxiety is the core of the neurosis." Now, anxiety is really a good thing for all of us as it shows we are not satisfied with "everything" and anxiety drives us on until we reach a common sense or ideal method of relieving the anxiety. Dr.. Moench points out that with- out anxlety, we would simply sit. When anxiety accumulates without opportunity for discharge or we use wrong methods of relieving anxiety, neurosis develops. How can we relieve anxiety or meet stressful situations success- fully? Some suggestions are: 1. Remembering how we band- led similar situations. 2. Familiarity with and willing- ness to accept our role in life and society. 3. Good physical health. satisfaction. 5. A wholesome life. religious or philosophical. 6. A stable responsibility in the community. If we try to evade or avoid our duty or responsibilities in a situ- ation, what we call a defense mlhhanism (alcohol. drugs) must be successfully fought. However, we must never forget that real or or- ganic discase can also cause neu- rotic symptoms. IN MEMORIAM In loving memory of our dear parents, who passed away at Cape Traverse. Mrs. Wm.
