Tan Public Temperance meeting held
at Bonshaw Saturday night, 14th under

335 was a complete success. M. F. Mc-
Kinnon was appointed chairman when a
short program was gone through after
which Revs. D. McLean and A. D. Mc-
Donald G. W. P. gave two stirring
addresses on Temperance which was
listened to with rapt attention by the
large audience present. The Rev. gentle-
men ahowed in rl convincing manner the
evil and dan er of the intoxicating cup-

and the wisdom and safety of total
abstinence urging on the young men to
be faithful to their vows on the temper-

resolution will be moved as a Government
measure:-Resolved that the amendment
of thc B.N.A. Ast by the Imperial Parlia-
mentsim as to enable the Parliament of
Canada to delegate to the several Provin-
cial Legislai-urea, notwithstanding any
thing in the said Act contained, the pow-
er to prohibit the-importation and manu-
facture of intoxicating liquors in the re-
spective Provinces would tend toward the
peace, order and good governmentof Can-

Railway. Business at the Soo is not as
lively as it was some years ago but still a
great work is progressing there. It is
eleven years sincc Mr. Cameron was on
the Island before. Eu route home he will
visit relatives in Nova Scotia, some of
whom he has not seen for thirty years.
Rav. W. H. Snuonwlclc lectured in St.
J unrcs Hall lust night on Whittier before
a good audience. Ho dealt with Whittier
as the poet of the abolition of slavery, tha
poet of childhood, the poet of brotherly
love destroying the distinctions of earth,
and the poet of the eternal goodness of
God. He will never bc a world wide poet
but he is distinctly the poet of New Eng-
lfuui. The lecture was given in a very
pleasing manner, and reflected greatly on
Rev. Mr. Scdgcwick as n. literary critic
and as possessing the fine feelings that
are appealed to by the beautiful, the good
and the true. Mr. Scdgcwlck is a. pro-
nounced acquisition to the very small
body of lecturers on Prince Edward Island
and thoroughly deserved the vote of
thanks so ably moved and seconded by
Licut. Governor Mt-Kinuon and Prof.
'Theodore lions and so well supported by
Rev. Mr. Dobson. The audience was an
excellent one fora lecture in Charlotte-
town.

even dull. There are pretty large stocks
of Prince Edward Island produce in ves-

,THE St. John Tclegraplr says: J. Arti-
mus Clark, of Beliview P. E. I. was in
the city yesterday, en route to Guelph
Ont., where he will re-enter the Agri-
cultural Collegc to complete a four
years' course in the scientific study of
agriculture and nature research. Mr.
Clark, who is _vet quite a young man,
has travelled extensively and is an ardent
student He passed a creditable series
of examinations at Cornell, after three
years of study there, before entering the
Guelph College. His brother, Prof. Jud-
son Clark, is a teacher at the Guelph in-
stitution, as well as holding the position
of forester for the Ontario government.
The young P. E. Islander homes or a
family of students. Besides Prof. Judson
Clark there are Miss Zella Clark, a grad-
uate of Acadia and just now completing
her final ycnr in medicine at Cornell (N,
YJ; Miss Irene Clark, ‘an advanced stu-
dent in domestic science; Miss Clark, a
Baptist missionary in India; and Jere-
miah Clark, u Baptist rnissionery in the
Canadian Northwest. '1`hc last named
