J. Holman As President - The annual mecang of the Home and School Association of Kcnsington was held on Thursday, Oct. 20th with a good attendance. The retiring president, Mrs. F. R. Nauss, convalcscing from a re- cent operation, was iii attendance but did not preside. The duties of chairman were performed very capably by Mrs. J. L. Saunders. The meeting opened by readin of the Home and School Creed f0 - lowed by reading and approval of the minutes. The treasurers report showed a successful fin- ancial year. In her ‘report the president gave a resume of the activities of the Association. The Nomination Committee pre- sented their report and the fol- lowing slate of officers were elected: President, Mrs. J. R. Holman; vice - president, Mrs. Ralph MacMillan; treasurer, Mrs. George Brookins; recording-secre- tary, Miss Catherine Campbell; corresponding secretary, Mrs. J. Pendergzist. Residents of Indian River and vic- inity were shocked and sorrow stricken on the morning of Septem- ber 6th. 1949, when it became known that Wilfred Glllis. a life long high- ly esteemed neighbor had passed away. Ho had only been lll for a few days and his death was- a great shock t0 his family and friends. His daughter Helen (Mrs. Wm. Clougb) who spent a month visiting her father returned to her home in Boston three days before his death. thinking that his lndisposltlon would be of short duration. Other members of his family __ attended him. doing all in their power with the aid of medical skill to restore him to health but. God willed other- wise and in the early morning of September Gth he passed peacefully to his Eternal reward. l-le was fre- quently vlsitcd during his short ill- ness by his pastor. Rev. R. F. Mc- Donald who brought him the con- solatlons of the Forty Hours De- votlon, being celebrated in Indian River church at that time. and also the last Sacrament of the Roman Catholic Church of which he was a devout member. Wilfred Glllis was born in Indian River on September 13th, 387T, and was therefore in his 73rd your. He was one of a family of fourteen. ten sons and four ilaugliters of Ven- antius Gillis. In 190'! lie married Clara Hickey who predeceased him eleven years ago.
