Two negro regiments en- listed in the Southern States will form a part of the grand total. The letter on “Ingersolland Faith” published in yesterday’s GUARDIAN was from beyond the bounds of P. E. Island. We mention this fact in order that no resident minister may iind it necessary to answer any queries on the subject. TH! GUAR- nim has constant readers in all parts of North America. The game of golf has been intro- duced at several of our seaside resorts but Charlottetown has not yet given it recognition at home. Why not establish a links at Victoria Park? There are surely some citizeneases and citizens who would enjoy playing the game, or trying to play it, and there are many more who would enjoy looking on while the players “putt” and “foozle” the ball with the varied and curious implements of the golfing craft. In speaking of the recent meeting of the Maritime Board of Trade held at St. John, N. B., the Monetary Times says : - ' -‘When Mr. Haszard. of Charlotte- town, introduced the question of better _telegrsphio communication between the _Island and the mainland, f he found many delegates unaware that the .Anglo-American Company is giving the people of__ the Island no better service than they had thirty years ago. After 8 o’c1ock in the evsning,Prinoo Edward Island is dead to the outside world. Dreyfus may go hang. Labori may be shot, our Ottawa rulers may push the electric button which sets' the politi- cal machin ' b ery going, ut if any of these events occur after 8, the people of the Bertillon, the expert who is now so strongly convinced that Drevfus wrote the borderean, gave testimony to the same edect at the Erst trial m 1894 (He is more widely known as the inventor of a system of ,measure- ments for the better identifiication of criminals.) Bertillon, after the first trial was one day shown another specimen of handwriting, and he pro- nounced it to be in the same hand- writing as the bordereau. On being_l told that this writing was by Ester- ll hazy, Bertillon at once declared that the bordereau had been traced by Dreyfus, letter by letter over .Ester- hazy’s writing and to this preposterous explanation he has clung ever since. It is admitted by all that the writing of the bordereau closely resembles that of listerhazy and does not re- semble the writing of Dreyfus. Hence the notion that it was “traced” as Bertillon says. But the process of tracing is entirely inconsistent with the free and rapid handwriting which lllllilillll li llllllllilll, sh--i 01 M Now ls the ln Buy Furniluirs.. Every mail we sr . .
