SAD ACCIDENT.-Thomas J. Fur-
ness oi Vernon River Bridge has re-
ceived a wire from Portage La Prai-
rie, Mun., conveying the sad news
that his eldest son Edison had been
killed on the railway there by being
crushed between two cars. Deceased,
who was only twenty-one years of
age, has been in the West ior two
years, where he was salesman with
the large wholesale manufacturing
concern of Snyder & Oo. He leaves
to mourn sorrowiug parents, two
brothers and two sisters, who have
the sympathy oi the community in
their bereavement. The remains will
be brought home for interment.
MRS. JOS. McKlNNON DEAD.-
There passed to her eternal rest, on
Friday, Jan. 30th, 1913 at her home
in Sydney, N. S., at the early age of
twenty-six years, Lena, the beloved
wife of Joseph McKinnon of that
place. The deceased, who was mar-
ried only last April, was of a very
amiable and gentle disposition, much
beloved by a large circle of friends,
by whom she will he greatly missed.
She was the daughter of the late
Charlotte Ann and Laughlin McKen-
zie of Sturgeon, and leaves to mourn
besides s disconsolate husband the
following sisters and brothers : Mrs.
P. McMahon and Mrs. John Crelghan,
Charlottetown; Mrs. John Young,
Whim Road; Mrs. Alexander Graham,
Murray Harbor North, Miss Lizzie,
George, Laughlin and Augustus in
.Sydney and Poten at home who
have the deep sympathy of their
many friends in their sad bereave-
ment.
GOOD MEETING.- The general
quarterly meeting of the Grand Divi-
lsion, Si.-O. T., was held at York last
'Tuesdsy. James Brodie of Char-
'lottetuivn presided in the absence oi
lthe G. W. P., Arthur Simpson. The
proceedings opened at 3.30 0'clock
in the afternoon. The session was
one of the most interesting and ini.-
portani. that has been held for some
itime. Considerable interest was
lrnanifested by those present in the
|better enforcement of ‘_ the prohibi-
gtory law and the discussion on this
point. was very profitable. It was
taken part in by nearly all in at-
tendance. It is more than likely
that, when the reports :fre sent to
the subordinate dlvisions_ throughout

iort being made by thc horsemen' of
this province to bring harness racing

rank oi maritime racing. No feature
tended more in the past to bring
this province into prominence and
advertise it than the high quality oi
its horses. The fame oi our trotters
and Pacers in the past rang the
echoes ot the horse world and it is
quite possible by co-operation and
sympathy from thc people to promote-
the sport to an extent greater than
ever before and make the Island
horse the beau ideal of maritime race
tracks.

meeting of the veterinary fraternity
of Prince Edward Island was held
yesterday in Charlottetown for the
purpose oi forming a Veterinary Med-
ical Assoclation. After a thorough
discussion ' of the subject in all its
bearings the organization was edect-
ed under the name of The Veterinary
Medical Association oi Prince Ed-
ward Island. The association has
for its object the elevation of' the
veterinary profession in the province,
the protection of its members and
their mutual improvement in vete-
‘rlnary matters. The following offl-
