The Perils of Playing Proline Scott MacDonald HMM...CHARLES OAKLEY IS OUT. STARKS HAS BEEN been ina terrible shooting slump lately. Ewing has been having a bad year. Plus Orlando is tough at home. Gotta like Seattle in the other game. Playing the Timberwolves at home. Rider is out doing his community service. Yeah that game should be a rock solid bet. Itseems that every time I watch sports highlights at night these days, I don’t care whether or not my favorite teams have won or lost; just if they beat the spread. Yes, I’ve joined the ranks of the addicted gamblers. For anyone living under a rock lately, I am referring to the Atlantic Lotto Corporation’s newest game that anyone can lose money on. Proline is a legalized sports betting program which allows you to place wagers from $2 to $25 on anywhere from three to six games. They allow you to place bets on football, basketball, hockey, and (if they ever reach a settle- ment) baseball. It’s possible for any sports fan to win big, as long as they follow who’s hot, and who’s not. Of course there are going to be a share of upsets, pro sports wouldn’t survive without them and neither would Proline. For example, over the holidays I bet on a series of three NBA games, all of which would be considered safe bets, which would have paid me off a nice little sum of $27.00 on a two dollar wager. So of course Seattle loses to a hot shooting Lakers team, Orlando loses to Charlotte, and the other game I bet on wasn’t decided by the six point margin of victory. ~ B LUO : | | ; eat : igi! | aU HEE WU wld UU ot FOU fa) GD .. eli | ot 1) OO OF OO TSA ET ie elit! we UE TEL ai bet AN Ebb! On one ticket I won (the very first time I played, as the evil monster of Gamblor sunk his teeth into me), I benefitted by two Reggie Miller free throws with .09 seconds left to win the game by a seven point margin. I lost on a $70.00 ticket because Latrell Sprewell hit a three at the buzzer to bring his Warrior club to lose by five, ifhe had missed that I would have had anice payoff but alas. ar ease Proline is extremely addictive. Think about how easy it should be: if you’re a knowledgeable fan you can predict who is going to win or lose. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Detroit will walk all over Green Bay without Sterling Sharpe. But then Barry Sanders has the worst game of his career, and you’re now out whatever bet you laid down. Some chump will constantly score at the buzzer to ruin the spread, or to make the spread on the rare occurances when you may bet for a tie. With the hockey season back on, expect lots of new Proline suckers...I mean players, to start wagering on NHL games. This should create plenty of excitement in addition to the drive to the NHL playoffs. People of course will win on this, but more often you'll find yourself looking at a ticket where you've picked all the right games but one, and contrary to the Meatloaf song-- two outta three IS bad. The only moral of this tale is to realize that gambling is an addiction, and like all addictions can get out of control so it’s best to keep an eye on your wagering ways. a o88 ess! -PRO-LINE 22m “st PRO-LIGNE Bs ry As $3 P| ii How to play PRO-LINE: t 1.
