Detective Curliss has been here the past few days looking after some cases, and also to see that the sentence of certain parties convicted for violation of .the Inland Revenue law might be carried out. Some of the parties, jn their “efforts'te obtain relief, had Curliss arrested. for alleged per- jury. The case was tried to-day, and he was remanded to the Supreme Court. He gave bail, $500 in himself and ‘a like sum between John H. McKay and G. J. Camp bell. St. Lovis, Jan. 31 The ice gorge formed on the Mississippi River, in front of the city, began to move at mid-day, and drifted down stream three hundred yards. The January thaw loosened the great mass, and it shortly crushed down upon nearly a million and a half dollars worth of property, which it is now grinding into ruins ; already several barges and four steamers have been sunk.
