Everybody knows where the Liberal- Conservatives stand on tne question of the development of Canada. The Laurier-Tarte policy is an un- certain policy, a policy of opportunism, rer 48 many believe, of corruption as well, A few years ago it was a policy of free trade up to the hilt, and death to Canadian industry. More recently it was a policy of com- mercisl annexation to the United States, with discrimination against Great Britain and the destruction of Canadian industry by the United States movopolies ae its leading features. It tolerates Canadian industry at thie moment in o-derte get asecond term and a free hand for its eccentricities. Laurier is pledged to strangulatien by slow degrees; he is negotiating with the United States for a scheme of r.ciprocity, the details of which he will not and dare not give out to the people in advance of an election; he is violently opposed to pre- ferential trade witb Great Britain.
