Maple Leafs Recipe for Success by Chris McCarron TSN hit the nail on the head when they said that the oroblem with the Leafs of the last ten years is that the am lacks an identity. Everyone knows that Les anadians are a defensive team and the Bruins area 1ard working hitting team. The Leafs are not alone in acking an identity. Recently the Flyers have become pathetic and just what is the Detroit Red Wings? A nard working club, not hard enough is the answer. Tom Watt and Maple Leafs management must bring e 91 Leafs back to the team identity in the 60’s and arly 70’s. Back to the days when Eddie Shack, Ron Zilis, Tiger Williams, Dave Keon, Norm Ullmane et I were busy checking, grabbing, and mugging their pponents. The former Maple Leafs were a success- ul team, a hockey power house which won 4 Stanely ups inthe 60’s. The clutch and grab Leafs of the ixties were the model for the tremendous Bruins and Flyers teams of the 70’s. In 1991 head coach Tom Watt is blessed with some players who do work hard and punish opponents. These guys are Wendel Clark, Craig Berube and Todd Gill. What general manager Cliff Fletcher must do is trade any Leaf who doesn’t live up to team expectations. Any player isn’t sweating his balls off must be traded to Winnipeg or somewhere. Get rid of Dave Reid, Thibadeau, etc. Toronto had been wise in not pur- chasing those expensive and inadequate Soviet play- ers. (Boston’s Rozika is an exception) Wendel Clark is having a great Seasonso far. He was leading the NHL in scoring until he was injured. Expecta healthy Wendel Clark to explode in the top ten in NHL scoring this year. Take if form Wendel himself who had this to say to his team mates during practice ‘‘you guys better put butter on your heads, ‘cause you're all toast.”’ WEEKLY RINK SCHEDULE MONDAY: 1:15-3:00pm_ open skate 3:15-4:30 pick up hockey : _ 7:00-9:30 — intramurals UESDAY: 9:00-11:00am pick up hockey & 1:15-2:00 pm figure skating 2:00-3:00 open skate 3:00-4:30 pick up hockey i 7:00-9:30 = intramurals WEDNESDAY: 7:30-8:30am vet 9:00-10:30 pick up hockey 11:30-12:30 open skate 1:45-3:00pm_ pick up hockey 3:15-4:30 open skate 7:00-9:30 intramurals 7:30-8;30am vet 9:00-11:00 pick up hockey 1:15-3:00 open skate 3:00-4:30 pick up hockey 7:30-9:30 — intramurals 9:45-11:00 ringette -P RESS November 14, FRIDAY: 9:00-11:00am pick up hockey 1:15-2:00 figure skating 2:00-3:00 open skate 3:00-3:45 pick up hockey SATURDAY: 10:00-11:45am women’s hockey 3:30-5:30 family skate SUNDAY: 10:00-12:00 men’s hockey 7:00-8:30 open skate EARN $2000 + FREE SPRING BREAK TRIPS!
