Cape Traverse, Augustine Cove. Lady Faneand Maple Plains Institutes was held in Crepaud flail. July 17th, 1940. The afternoon session which was attended by 80 members, opened with the president. Mrs. Raymond Wood of North Tryon, presiding. After the singing of O Canada and repeating the Creed in unison, the address of welcome was given by Mrs. Joseph Trowsdale of Crapauci, special mention being nude of the New Institutes. This was responded to by Mrs. Stewart MscMicken of Carleton. The minutes of the 1939 conven- tion were read. by the Secretary, Mrs. Arthur MacKsy, Albany. The president then gave her address and a report from each Institute lwas given by the acting Secretar- es. A report of the Annual Conven- tion held in Charlottetown was giv- en b)’ the delegate, Mrs. Elmer’ Gamble of Albany. After some dis- cussion and explanation by the Supervisor (Miss MacDonald) it was decided to send a delegate to the convention, said delegate to be chosen by means of notation of Institutes. It was moved and seconded that Mrs. Raymond Wood of North Try- on be the delegate to attend the 1941 convention in Charlottetown Miss Olive Ings of the P.E.I.'I‘.B. League gave an hiterestlng talk and discussed the different phases of her work and spoke of their aim as being to restore and main- tain the prtienls suffering with this disease to good health. A monologue (Learning to drive a car) was given by Mrs. S. D. Trites of Tryon and was well en- joyed by all. Miss Beer, Supt. of the PEI Protestant Orphanage gave a very interesting talk on her work in connection with the orphanage... She told of the orphanage in 1907 being only a farmhouse and five or six children were put into one bed without light and proper ven- tilation. then the act was changed and it was made into a Protestant Orphanage with modern conven- iences. In 15 years there hasnt been one death. There are 51 children enrolled, they have their school and hove classes from grades 1-9. It ls visited twice a year by the inspector. She also told of their diet-Azure and training and of the medical attention which they receive from Doctor Tidmarsh free of charge. A very interesting talk on R. C. work was given by the Supervisor (Miss MacDonald) and a demon- stration of the R. C. work and ap- demonstrations o . r The following resolutions were then brought in by the convenor, Mrs. Joirn Nicholson of Crapaud. Resolved that we the members of Victoria Warren's Institute do earnestly beseech the government of P.E.I. for a stricter enforcement of the Prohibitory Law —and that drivers of motor vehicles under tne influence of liquor be arrested and their names published also their driving license be revoked or sus- pended for a. limited time. Be it resolved that Whereas 0111' Empire is at this moment engaged 1n a deady struggle for her very existence and whereas our own Dominion is being called to duty; we as Institute members and loyal record ultimately bestow upon u; ace and security.
