Wright has missed only three matches, all because of injuries. Short and stocky, Wright camet to Wolverhampton in 1939 look- ing for a job in soccer. He was taken on as a groundsboy butt after five months manager Frankt Buckley told him he was too small to make the grade. A broken-hearted Wright left: the manager’s office. resigned 10‘ a career outside soccer. But not for long. Members of thcstaff interceded on his behalf and just before the Second World War started.
